Virtual Tour
Welcome to Khan Lab School! We are a non-profit, mastery-based school founded by Salman Khan in 2014 to cultivate his student-centered philosophy in a physical school environment. Khan is also the founder of Khan Academy and author of The One World Schoolhouse (2012), in which he makes the case for mastery-based, mixed-age, and blended learning with a departure from traditional letter grades. Today the KLS community is bringing that vision to life on its own campus and also sharing knowledge within education more broadly.
This is the main entrance to our school and the location for student drop-off and pick-up each morning and afternoon. Our school is located in Mountain View, California.
Like many spaces throughout Khan Lab School, the Upper School features an open-concept learning environment. This provides students with the space to engage in group discussions, navigate Goal Time, and be in community with one another.
Throughout the Upper School space, there are several breakout rooms for students and teachers. These spaces are used as classrooms as well as open study spaces for students during Goal Time. The space also includes staff and teacher offices.
Conference-style rooms like the Independence Room provide intimate learning spaces for small groups with personalized attention from our teachers.
The Upper School space also hosts community events throughout the year, including weekly Community Meetings featuring occasional guest speakers and the annual Rubik’s Cube Competition.
The Upper School is connected to the Lower School space by a hallway. Independence Levels 1, 2, and 3 learn together in the Lower School area. Class activities take place in the main class spaces, as well as in the smaller breakout rooms.
The Lower School space offers flexibility for community gatherings, like the annual KLS Talent Show. The outer perimeter of the Lower School space also has staff and teacher offices.
The portico area is on the side of the school building and is where students receive their hot lunch.
Next to the portico area is the playground, which includes a blacktop for various games, seating areas, basketball hoops, and the school’s Community Garden.
The playground area is also a community gathering space for community events and traditions like our annual Halloween costume gathering.
