The Extended Day model is intended to provide students with enough independent work time (Goal Time) at school so that they are able to spend time with family and decompress once they go home. Extended Day provides an opportunity for students to do goal work that would traditionally be considered homework. Additionally, KLS offers a myriad of opportunities for students to lead and participate in after the core school day. These consist of provided activities, and teacher-led classes, and student-led clubs. Students can also apply to be a leader of a club each term. Students who are not in activities and clubs during Extended Day are expected to utilize this time to work on their goals and are required to do so for at least the first portion of Extended Day.
During in-person learning, if students want to stay after school to participate in Goal Time work, read, participate in student-led clubs, etc., this supervision is included in tuition. If students choose to enroll in teacher-led Extended Day enrichment classes, there is a fee.
During the fall 2020 term, Extended Day will be fully remote. Students have the opportunity to enroll in teacher-led classes that will take place on Zoom between 4:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. During remote learning, this will be the only structured Extended Day programming.
